Ribbon flame with limestone – project summary

This project included our Large Bio Container.

There used to be an open chimney breast in the space where the fireplace is built. At first, the open space was built up with brick, then rendered with sandstone and cement, and finally the inside of the opening was painted with fire-rated black paint. The bio container fits into a pre-cut slot that is larger than the bio container – to allow for slight expansion and no heat transference.

Testing of the Bio Container inside the opening, before finishing the work.

The opening was rendered with sandstone and cement to create a smooth finish and prepare the wall for a limestone surround (sourced separately)

Note how the limestone surround loweres the opening, so the filan effect is a stunning letterbox opening. Inside the hole, there is much more height for the flame and hot air.
